Writing Workshop We write every day during our Writing Workshop. Third graders learn about and use the writing process, which includes pre-writing and planning, drafting, revising, editing and publishing.
We write in various genres through the year, including personal narrative, expository (informational) text, and persuasive writing. Students also participate in a fiction writing unit during which they write their own version of a fairy tale! We follow the Common Core aligned Lucy Calkins' Units of Study for Writing Workshop.
Class time is structured around a short mini-lesson followed by independent writing time during which one-on-one and small group conferences take place. Our writing time ends each day with a share--a time to celebrate our hard work!
